International Collaboration & Exchange of 2013

GWCMC spares no effort to bridge international activities and takes effective measures to promote international collaborations. For the past year, around 88 of our staff have been abroad to learn and exchange with our counterparts while 68 international guests have visited us.

In February, Professor Georg.F. Hoffmann, president of Children's Hospital of Heidelberg University visited GWCMC with his wife Dr. Fang Junmin. During the visit, the two parties have tentatively agreed to explore the collaboration opportunity in talent and specialty development. 

On February 21th, Mr. Gary Faye Locke, United States Ambassador to China paid a visit to GWCMC accompanied by Mr. Harley Seyedin, president of the American Chamber of Commerce in South China and Ms. Jennifer Zimdahl Galt, Consul General of American Consulate General Guangzhou. The esteemed guests

Pediatric Stomatology expert Dr. Rao Yue from BC Children’s Hospital visited us on February 27th. He watched a reconstructive dental surgery with general anesthesia and shared his experiences and expertise in the latest developments in related fields.
Dr. Mecedes Chen from Department of Rheumatology and immunology, BC Children's Hospital paid two-day visit to GWCMC in March 2013. He has participated in the cases discussion in Immunology Department.

The University of British Columbia Delegation led by Dr. Gavin Stuart, Dean of Medicine came to visit us on March 15th. The delegation members include Dr. Allison Eddy (Chair of Dept. of Pediatrics), Mr. Mark Vernon (Chief Operating Officer, Faculty of Medicine), Dr. Kendall Ho (Director, e Health Strategy Office) and Dr. Charles Larson (Director, International Children Health Center). The two parties would like to establish closer partnership and consider further collaboration in pediatrician training and research.

On March 22nd, Chair of Fu Tak Iam Foundation Mr. Adrian Fu and the Director-General Ms. Connie Tsang along with Dr. Charles Larson came to evaluate the Canada-China Collaborative Neurosciences Project. On behalf of the Foundation, Dr. Fu expressed his appreciation for the progress made by GWCMC in a variety field and would be willing to further support the Wheelchair Bank Project.

Invited by Standing Committee of Guangzhou People's Congress, the Parliamentary delegation of Buenos Aires, Argentina visited GWCMC on March 26th. The guests are accompanied by Ms. Zhang Li, deputy director of the Municipal Health Bureau, and Mr. Li Liangzhou, Deputy Director of Foreign Affairs Committee of Guangzhou People's Congress.

On April 10th , Professor David.P.Roye, head of orthopedics, School of Medicine of Columbia University paid a visit to GWCMC. As an expert in treatment of spine and hip deformity and cerebral palsy in children, Professor Roye shared with us the basic knowledge and techniques in Scoliosis.

On June 22nd, Professor Josef Neu from Medical College of Florida University visited GWCMC, with particular interest in knowing our research progress in neonatal nutrition, neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis and birth cohort study.

President Xia Huimin introduced the hospital’s charity foundation collaboratively set with Guangdong Soong Ching Ling Foundation to Dr. Delos Blakely, the board of US New Future Foundation, who visited us on September 5th.

From August 21st to 30th, the executive director of Canada BC Child Health Organization Mr. Maureen O’ Donnell, Chair of International Seat Asociation Ms. Maureen Story, Senior Physical Therapist from BC Children’s Hospital Ms. Diane Wickenheiser, the project coordinator Ms. Joyce Lam and Physical Therapist from Alberta University Professor Johanna Darrah visited GWCMC to understand and promote the seating outpatient consultant program.
