Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)


The Children's Intensive Care Unit (PICU) consists of two intensive care units in the Pearl River New City and Children's Hospital District. Established in 1988, PICU is one of the earliest established PICUs in China. It is currently one of the important components of the Guangzhou Severe Child Treatment Center. It is the key specialty of the “Five-Year Plan” of Guangzhou Medical and Health Organizations. The key project of the plan is the center of critical illness for children in South China.
 
The profession currently has 25 specialists, including 7 senior titles. Nearly 50% of the specialists have studied in children's hospitals in Chicago, Kansas, and Cincinnati in the United States; 80 nursing staff and 8 specialist nurses. He has undertaken more than ten scientific research projects of Guangdong Science and Technology Department, Health Planning Commission and Guangzhou Municipal Health Planning Commission, and published nearly 10 SCI articles.
 
PICU has 40 monitoring units, and treats critically ill children about 2,000 times a year. It has an “in-hospital-in-hospital-PICU” treatment system with the emergency department, and receives heavy transportation from Xinjiang, Jilin, Chongqing, Hubei, Hainan, Guangxi, etc. The number of children is more than 1,000. With advanced domestic equipment and equipment, carry out extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), continuous blood purification, non-biological artificial liver, electronic fiber bronchoscopy and interventional therapy, bedside severe ultrasound, invasive, non-invasive mechanical ventilation and other domestic advanced The treatment of the disease includes craniocerebral, cardiothoracic, trauma, urinary, gastrointestinal hepatobiliary and tumor, ENT, liver transplantation, kidney transplantation and other perioperative patients; severe pneumonia, sepsis, various types of shock, heart Critical illness such as exhaustion, respiratory failure, renal failure, and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. The proportion of severe cases with APACHEII scored above 15 points reached 95%, the rate of invasive mechanical ventilation was 55%-78%, and the success rate of severe cases reached 85-90%.
